Lug nut studs

Greetings all. I sheared two lug nut studs on my 83 F-150 (4WD) How do these come out? Are they just pounded in, or reverse threaded in? Thanx in advance freddy

Pull the axle out - I'm guessing you have a 9", so get your slide hammer out - and pound the stud back through the axle flange. A couple good whacks and it will pop right out. As for the new stud, you can either press it in from behind or pull it through using a 1/2" impact, a lugnut, and a spacer nut.

Edit - unless you can get the new stud in from behind without pulling the axle (can't remember if there's enough room) then you won't have to pull the axle. Then you have to use the impact to put the new one in.

Yea, it's a 9" rear I believe. I think there's room to get the stud in without pulling the axle. So they are press in, and I just got to beat them out? There's only about 1/4 in sticking out past the flange, a few good whacks with a 5 lb hammer?
