I have a 76 Camper special, and I want to put my camper on it.
Question #1) Should I use the stock mounting system or go with a new style setup (maybe a question for a different forum)
Question #2) Does anybody have any pictures of how the setup is supposed to work? I think I'm missing most of the parts anyway, but I could weld up some replacements brackets pretty easily.
Possibly someone could loan me theirs so that I can reverse engineer them. I could then post the manufacturing drawings on the forum for everybody's enjoyment.
camper special referred to the spring setup and other options on the truck. I would take the truck it to a rv shop and see what they have to say about mounting it
i dont haul a camper anymore, but its not too hard to fab up a frame mounted tie down for a camper. the type i used in the past (and my son uses now) used square tubing mounted under the box on the frame at the front. it came out about 3 or 4 inches past the body on each side.the turn buckles and chains attached to that and connected to the camper. at the back, it had 2 inch square tubing that slides into the ends of the class 4 trailer hitch.but if you dont have the hitch, you can get a similar tubing type set up as the front for the back too. if you really are not sure, then go to an RV shop for advise on what you will need.better safe than sorry.

Well maybe what I have on my truck is aftermarket. There is a whole bunch of bracketry under the 4 corners of the bed. It all looks stock to me. Figured the Camper Special package had come with the means to tie down a camper.
WOW! Thanks Dennis. I didn't even know that existed! I would also love to have that setup on my truck, but will make do with what I've got, since it's already done! Good luck!
Dak
learn something new every day that is the first time I had seen that now i wonder if there are more tricks for my trailer special than I knew about
thanks dennis
Yeah, I was just gonna use a few turnbucles from D&B with lengths of chain instead of the originals like those on ebay. $80 is a bit steep when you're a broke redneck.
The main parts I'm interested in are the "277A14" parts shown on the diagram Dennis gave us; I don't have any of them. I'm also missing one "27736"
i wish i would have known them parts were on ebay, i have everything including all
hardware/brackets that bolt to frame and bed, but not the rods took them all off
a 74 scs had them all sandblasted and painted ready to go on my 78 f-350 to be
politically correct, but thats ok. one tough truck 78 f-350 140 inch wheel base
5.8 litre, c-6, dana 70 rear with 4.10 limited slip. 8900 gvw with 12,000 origional miles
bought it 5,400 miles. being restored now at a ford dealership. used to be a fire truck
in benton ark. had service bed. travelled 5000 miles round trip to bed to find the correct bed. the truck drives like a brand new truck, i have owned a lot of trucks and this one is the toughest.
Million, the picture expired from photobucket and I wasn't smart enough to keep a copy. Do you still have it around somewhere?
Camping season is starting and I've become interested in trying to get my hands on these pieces again. Anybody know where a guy could find em?
I figure most of these setups were lost over the years as most people would take them off unless hauling a camper... then they are forgotten when a truck is sold or tossed out when a garage is cleaned.
Does anybody has a set that I could borrow? I could put a deposit down or something. I'd really like to take them to a local weld shop and have a set built.
