2002 explorer hitch

I now have a class II reciever. I want to change to a class III but would like to have the same style as my existing. The class II was factory installed and does not hang down below the bumper. It's actually tucked behind the bumper. Does anyone know the part number of the reciever, or where to locate one.

Thanks

Just for your info - a Class III receiver won't do much to increase your towing capacity. You don't have the 3.73 LS rear gears and, if it's a V6, the engine oil cooler. I think the factory tow package came with a larger aux tranny cooler also.

A wrecking yard would probably be your best bet, unless you want new.

I second what steina said. even adding a class III won't give you a better towing capacity if you don't have the 3.73 gears and larger tranny cooler.

One advantage, even with same towing limits: You can use the bigger hitch to mount the popular accessories, such as cargo racks, cookers, etc. that usually won't fit the smaller hitch.
Also- I have seen some adaptors that can be used for those accessories on the small hitch (within load limits).

Some of those 1.25"-to-2.0" adapters are marked NOT TO BE USED FOR TOWING, although I'm sure people have done that. Des didn't say why he wants the Class III/IV receiver, or if he ever got it swapped out.

I got my class III from a wrecking yard. It tucks up nicely behind the bumper. It had a U-Haul sticker on it . I paid $20

Gen III Explorers are a whole different ball game when it comes to receiver hitches, especially if you wanna keep the stock look.
