Hello all. I have F250 7.3 auto with 74k miles. This weekend I was running her down the interstate between 85 and 90 (like normal) and noticed that the trans temp was climbing up to yellow. I exited off the interstate and let her cool for 10 minutes. She dripped out about 3 to 4 ounces of trans fluid. Started her up and took off down the road after checking the fluid level. She ran fine as long as i stayed unter 80. I have neglected to service the tranny since I bought her at 30k miles. Going to do that today or tomorrow.
My question is this, I have read some stories about the trans cooler geeting stopped up and needing to have an external inline filter installed. Is this reccomended or a simple fluid, filter and gasket job sufficiant?
Lubegard will lower the temps but if you are running that hot empty then I suspect that the torque converter clutch may be slipping. If that's the case, then you should see a code for it. Have you checked the codes?
Check the trans cooler for debris. It may be stopped up or a line may be pinched.
