I like my optimas, I have had blue and yellow tops. I have a decent load, so the deep cycle helps me when the motor is off. Anymore any starting battery is decent, so it depends on your budget as to which will suite your needs best.
I recently used Energizer batteries for my diesel 7.3 and had no cranking issues till date and no problem with the cold weather during the winter. Not sure how well they would hold up if they were drianed and jumper a few times but thus far not too bad of performance from them.
straight bolt-in. They are a alittle smaller, but the base is the same size as a standard battery. I think you want the 78/34 group, at least I am using the D34M marine battery.
What's the life span on the Optima? I don't mind spending extra for a good battery. I have Diehard golds in my 99 F350 PSD. I've had them 3-4 years and they seem to be getting weak in the winter or if the truck sits for a few days. I need to look at my receipt, I think they were 100 month batteries.
My yellow top lasted 5 years, I ran the battery down every weekend. I replaced it before I had problems. My blue tops, I ran into some issues, all of which were warrantied out. The first lasted 5 years, I am into this one for 4 months.
