It has black plates, but the ones on that Mustang weren't on there in 1966. They have the later letter sequence, not used till 1968. And the car has the wrong wheels. It's a good thing he didn't post any additional pictures, otherwise...

CA issued black plates beginning in September 1962, and they were used till mid year 1969. Because some of the most popular collector cars were made during this time, a black plated car has (for some) more significance because the plates are original to the car. I've seen more than one car advertised with "original" black plates, but like this Mustang, they weren't there originally, and are either replacements, or the car came from another state. Black plates are still valid, and the replacement for the black plates, the blue ones, are valid too.

Black plates cannot be re-used today. So if the 1962/69 vehicle has later blue or white plates, the owner is SOL...(unless he's cagey).

Only a black plate "nut" not only knows the letter sequences, but also knows that the three letters can be traced to the CA county they were issed in originally. Don't ask, it's a sickness.

Thats pretty interesting Bill, i didnt know that.
That is a nice enough car, but with a 6 cylinder, I think its a little too much. I have seen cars similiar to this in the same shape with 289's, go for less.

It certainly isn't rare, despite the "Dreams of Grandeur" price. 499,751 hardtops were made in 1966. Even if only 10% have survived, that's still nearly 50,000 cars. The hardtops are at the bottom of the food chain. Everyone wants rags (72,119) and fastbacks (35,698).

Did somebody mention fastbacks?
Fastbacks and convertibles are great but a hard top is so easy to modify and build into a sweet ride.
I`ve seen some real nice tastefully done and I would never ever modify a f/b or convert.

Yeah hardtops are nice, but they dont compare to a convertible or a fastback.

I like a convertible myself. Way more expensive, but way more rare, and something about having the top down on a nice summer day is just awesome!
