I have an 86 4x4 ranger, I owned an 84 15 years ago and both have the same problem I think. They look like they are sagging in the rear. I don't know if its an optical illusion or if a canopy and a couple sheets of plywood are too much for the springs. I notice the bed kind of tapers from front to back but It looks wrong. I'm guessing I should get overload springs or those air bag helpers. I could use some advice and maybe confirmation that this happens to these older trucks.
Get a tape measure and measure the distance from the top of the rear wheel well to the ground, and what size tires do you have?
Canopies typically aren't too heavy, and a couple of sheets of plywood isn't much, so I wouldn't expect a lot of sag. I pulled a Mazda Miata on a trailer and it just leveled my truck out. That being said it's a 21 year old truck, the suspension has seen better days. Only measurements can tell what's really going on.
