87 Bronco: Front Axle Vibrations
I have a 1987 Bronco. Lately when I engage the 4-wheel (high) the truck will "shimmy" at about 40-50 kph (25-30 mph). When I then disengage the 4-wheel drive the indicator light goes out but it refuses to truly disengage until I stop, backup, shift from P to R to P to D, curse a little, shift, backup...you get the idea.
Any ideas? I don't use the 4-wheel enough for it to really tick me off but it's close.

for the shimmy, check the front u-joints. for the disengaging problem, if you have auto hubs, you do have to go in the opposite direction for about ten feet. read the manual to get specific directions for your year. the hubs are not like some gm units you may have tried.

Thanks, I'll have a close look at the u-joints. I didn't get a manual so I assumed the Ford hubs worked the same as my Jeep Cherokee. I'll see if I can find a manual.
