ok so I have this nice S code intake and last night I went to go clean it and noticed that my water by pass is serverly rusted and rotted to the point of being non useable..can I replace this pieace and if so how?? Can I pull one off another intake and tap it into mine? Or is it intake shopping time again Thanks
Mark
No worries, I drilled mine out very carefully, pipe threaded and installed a brass nipple w/ no prob's yet. You can also take it to your local machinist and have him do it reasonably priced if you're not able to.
Yeah this one is so bad I won't be needing to do any drilling lol...when you say pipe threaded did you need to tap it or anything or is it kinda a self tapping thing?
Ya I work in a shop so I had all the tools at my fingers. I used a brass pipe that pops gave me that was already threaded on one end so I just found the matching tap and tapped out the manifold. You've gotta be dead on center though b/c you're tapping cast iron and it is very brittle. It will either tap or just tear chunks of iron out and then you're up the creek. Get a price from your local machinist. Couldn't imagine it being more than 40-50 bucks.
If the hole is the intake is not badly rotted/pitted you can install a stock size tube. Tap it in with some locktight/sealer etc...on it and go. DSC has them for $2 or NAPA I'd imagine would have them. Local plumbing house/HD might have something the same size. Pretty easy fix.
No. I believe ya would destroy a used one trying to get it out. Clean it all up and make sure ya have no other problems than take it to a shop and have a pipe nipple put in.
make sure your replacement elbow has tube below the threaded part.
(extends into the manifold) you dont want air to get sucked into your heater lines. if you hook up your heater?
