Hey you guys with the straight 6's. What do you guys get for average fuel mileage? There is a shortbox I have found down here for pretty cheap, and I was just thinking about picking it up for a driver, but I would only wanna get it, if it would get ok fuel mileage.
i used to get about 22 on the highway...16-18 in town in the summer. is it in decent shape?? if you don't go for it, post pics for me...i might be interested...you said my favorite word... "cheap" ...
Damn, thats no better then any of my 302's get. I dont know if I can post pics sherm, but it is a early to mid 80's ford reg cab shortbox, in good shape, with a 3 speed with overdrive.
No the weren't espically known for fuel economy, but where you tell a difference is when you are loaded, if you wish to know more about them, the best person to talk to is Col Flashman. he has a wicked 300, sorry 312.
I had an 81 with an auto and it would get 22 - 23 on the highway in good driving conditions. I also had an 86 and a 96 with a 302 and they would get 23 -24 on the highway without much trouble.
I like the 300 6's and when I first got it rebuilt it was getting me around 22 on the highway. Right now something is out of kilter and I'm getting around 15 right now. Hope to have that fixed.
The 300 seems tohave more power for pulling and hauling stuff. But I have learned the 302 is better on gas than the 300 usually. 300's are hard to kill. much more easier to work on for repairs.
I just like them over the V8's.
i sure liked mine for working!! there wasn't anything it wouldn't pull/haul, and it would do it effortless. nowhere for it to rev, all the torque down low. wish they kept that engine as an option in the newer trucks.
