I want to install an electric cooling fan for my 92 bronco. I dont really want to spend an arm and a leg, maybe just an arm. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I can find an inexpensive electric cooling fan?
Thanks
There are a couple of guys that sell the flex-a-lite 295 fans that are an exact fit on EBAY. Retail they cost like $340 but I got mine refurbished for like $275. I looked for other options myself, I wouldn't recommend anything else.
get a good one at a scrap yard, the originals from the factory are better than most if not all aftermarket and you should be able to get a set up reasonably. You might have to fabricate a bracket or two. If you search threads you should find specific makes and models of cars to search for. Some have made the swap for well under 100.00 and have top end units.
beware of those kits that have you attach the system by stringing wires/stuff through your radiator as it will wear a hole in a matter of time....bad idea.
texbronco we would like to welcome you to FTE. When I joined it took me awhile to figure out how to search. Look at the top menu bar, Forums then Search. Here is a good discusstion on electric fan... https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/5...ght=fan+clutch
Thats true, but the Flex-a-lites have the best shroud. It covers about 98% of the radiators surface, so you get max cooling going down the highway, and with the included controller the fans will turn off to save power.
texbronco you did not say why you are considering electric. Is it overheating or maybe you are looking for more A/C at idle? Have you checked for vacuum leaks? Due to my Bronco usage on weekends, and not every weekend , I think I will stay with the fan clutch to keep the battery better charged. A heavy duty fan clutch is on my list of things to do. Even though mine seems fine a mfg. website says the clutch loses so many RPM with high mileage. Like me, they start slipping more with age.
My 91, not 92, bronco is only used for hunting and hard work. I paid $1400 for it and that is about all it is worth. It failed the emmissions test when I tried to get it inspected. A compression test on the cylinders revealed that the # 8 piston was running about 15 lbs. I am in the process now of putting the engine back together after having the heads worked. The reason that I am interested in getting an electric fan is because the fan shroud is missing. It seems to me that I can spend a little bit more and just get the fan, and disregard the fan shroud. When I bought this bronco I thought there were only 2 bullet holes throughout the body, come to find out there are about 7. It is beat up something fierce, but I have faith that once the engine is going, it will be a hell of a hunting vehicle and work horse. If anyone cares to see photos of it, email me and Ill share.
there is another bronco site with multiple write ups regarding this so search google.
you can use a Tbird, crownvic electric fan. the flex a lite system is nice but over priced.
