I am working on an engine swap for my daughters 65. I pulled the 352 and had a friend give me a 390 to put in it. The 390 had an electronic dist and has a smaller distributor shaft. I am looking for info for a point type.
This is a new one for me. The 352 dizzy should bolt right in. How is the center shaft causing a problem? Besides, how small can it be? I has to drive the same size oil pump shaft as the other one.
You need a distributor for an FE engine. All the FE dizzys interchange. The last year for points was 1973. The oil pump shafts (B8AZ-6A618-A) fit all the FE's from 1958/76, and the 330 FT engine from 1964 and up. The oil pump shafts are different for the FT 361/391 (C4TZ-6A618-A). There was a dual point dizzy also: C0AZ-12127-E. These were standard equipment on HiPo 352's (1960/61) 390's (1961-63), 406's and 427's, but fit the 352/360/410 and 428's.

how can i tell if the 390 is a 391 ft or not I would think that the dist from the 352 would fit. I wish i had gotten more info off the donner tow truck I got the engine out of.

Look along the base of the dizzy, just below where the rim of the cap sits.
There's a STAMPED Ford dizzy number there...similar to: C5TA-12127-AA. Find the number and post it here.
I cant get the distributor to drop far enough into the block to engage the oil pump drive. I am thinking I might have to find an after market ignition that will take the dura spark dist that fits. this is just strange every thing mic out the same untill I get Just below the drive gear then the 390 is smaller from
that only works if the dist will engage the cam and this one will not drop in far enough for that. the hole in the bottom of the block seems to be to small
