Hi, everyone. Have a 78 F150 460 auto with a np203 full-time transfer case. It has hub lockouts so I'm guessing is been converted to part-time. Here's the problem, when I unlock the hubs and put the transfer case in Hi it goes 25-50 ft then it just spins the driveshaft without moving. I thinking they never converted the t-case or they did and its worn out. what do you think? Is there a quick way of checking. It goes in Hi-lock with hubs unlocked or just Hi with hubs locked. thanks
If it was converted to part time, it should no longer have a "LOC" position, because the "LOC" really no longer exists. The part time conversion locks the center diff all of the time. Other wise thie truck would go nowhere if you unlocked the hubs, only the front driveshaft would spin, and the truck having unlocked hubs would just not go anywhere.
Do you have a position on the shifter that is not neutral, and only supplies power to the rear shaft? This means, you can drive the truck in 2wd, and with the front hubs unlocked you can spin the front driveshaft by hand?
That is a shure sign of a converted 203.
