Im a manual trans guy....dont know much about autos except theres no clutch lol. So whats the difference between a lock up converter and one that isnt a "lock up" converter?
The torque converter, (actually a torque multiplier) is not a ver y efficient unit, and always slips, even when it reaches it's stall speed. This creates a slight power loss, and the end result is heat. Heat is a killer for an auto.
The lock-up physically links the pump, and the turbine. This changes the converter to a purely mechanical coupling. The end result is a unit with almost zero slippage, and very low power loss. The final advantage(s) would be less heat, which can equal more life, and lower engine rpm's due to the lack of slippage.
The lock-up is a more effecient unit.
oh I know the general info on the C6, and have heard many good things about them. Im not a rookie to ford parts and what ones are good and what arent....every once and a while when reading through threads something catches my interest that I dont know the meaning or answer to so I start a thread to clarify.
So a lock up converter would be a good upgrade for a c6?
