I need to do the balljoints on my 2001 E150. As there is a perfect instruction available at Ford Truck Enthusiasts I think of doing the job myself. Only problem is that I live in Sweden and do not know where to get the right tools. I assume that the simple "one-size-fits-all" tools do not fit the E150. As E150 never was sold in Sweden special tools are not available through the ordinary workshop supplies.
Where can I get the right tool set, preferably at a company which would ship worldwide?
I replaced my E-150 ball joints w/o special FORD tools by using a very large C-clamp, pipe fittings & some scraps of steel for spacers, along with a big hammer & drifts. IMO it would not worth it to buy the special tools for a single job. Any reasonably equipped & inventive mechanic should be able to accomplish this job if I could do it. Don't be intimidated, its easier than it looks, most of the job is just getting down to the ball joints.
look at articles and specs. at top of page
there is an article on E150 ball joint changing
not a bad job to do
best to wash everything with high pressure washer
and soak the nuts and connections with WD40 or equal
I recently changed the BJ's in my 1995 E150 Conversion with a cheap HARBOR FREIGHT Combo-Kit ($29.99). To further my grief I didn't have a vise or a workbench out in the country! Not a bad/difficult job but I suggest using a bench mounted vise for sure. Now it's on to those pesky swaybar end bushings! I rate this a 5 on the scale of 10 being most difficult (w/o a vise!). Good Luck!
