Trans fluid level help
I bought a 1997 F-150 5.4 auto trans with OD. 96k miles.(love the truck) The previous owner took very good care of this turck and serviced it on time for oil and trans. My concern is That the trans fluid is too full. Its all the way up on the dip stick to the cable. This is true when the truck is running or not. Can this cause damage? The fluid looks clean and smells good. The trans shifts fine. Any input would be great!

Too much fluid can cause an aeration problem and foaming. This in turn could cause lack of fluid in certain parts of the unit and result in lack of lubrication in some areas. You should pump the extra fluid out of the filler tube, or drain the pan to the proper level.

Trans fluid level help
What about synthtec trans fluid on a transmission with 100k miles on it a good Idea or not? The trans works good I just want to keep it that way. Thanks , Justin ( I've killed 3 1985-92 ford 150 4x4 all were do to excissive abuse ) I just want to keep the 97' for a while.

Personally, I would not use synthetic in an older transmission. Just change it regularly and it will last a long time.
