I am looking at purchasing a dvd navigation system for my 2007 ford f-150. I currently have the audiophile system with sirius sat radio and a subwoofer. On ebay there are many brand new gps navigation units for sale, and i am thinking about purchasing one. Does anyone know if this will be a direct plug and play unit, or is there some level of programming to set it up? Also will the siruis unit and subwoofer be compatible with the navigation unit? Is the sirius radio part of my current system built into the radio, or is it a seperate unit that plugs in? Any input woudl be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
With the proper wiring it shouldn’t be very difficult to hook up to the factory door speakers, the sub will require some extra work, but it can be done. The siruis radio is a separate module and I doubt you’ll ever get it to work with a aftermarket head unit, you can probably use the same antenna though. It may require some light programming out of the box.
Are you looking at an aftermarket unit or an Ford OE nav unit? If the former you can get direct plug-n-play wiring harnesses at most national electronics chains (Circuit City, Fry's, etc). I believe crutchfield sells the sub interface as well. You might have to wire the remote wire for the amp separately though.
The sirius will not work with an aftermarket unit, but the antenna wire will if you remove the plastic surround.
I am looking to install an OEM unit from another ford vehicle. I was just looking at one ebay auction for a unit that says it will be a direct plug and play install and all of my stock components will work perfect. Has anyone every done a basic unit to navigation swap?
In that case make sure you get some pictures of the ebay unit's harness plugs an compare that to the harnesses in your truck. Ford has a loooong history of using several different headunits (even though the fronts all look the same) on the same model in a single model year.
If it's a GPS unit I wouldn't expect your truck to have the GPS antenna or the GPS control module (if the new units require it, my '06 Expy GPS has a module in the dash as well).
No, that wasnt the one i was looking at. The one i am looking at goes in the same location as the stereo i have now. Bridge, after looking at a few websites for information I found that the 06 and 07 expeditions have two completely different head units for gps, and that they are not interchangeable.
Yup, the '06 is CD based and the '07's are DVD based made by a different manufacturer. I've got the factory Nav in my '06 Expy...don't like it much, but the wife knows how to work it and it's her car now so it's all good. My truck has an aftermarket Pioneer. 10x better than the factory units and it costs less. Ford charged $2k for theirs and $1.5k pays for a much better aftermarket unit with more options better access to upgrades.
