throttle valve cable?

transmission problem with AOD
my 86 150 with the 5.0 and AOD. the tranny is shifting really hard and its downshifting as soon as i pull off the gas pedal and its jolting really hard after i put my foot back on it. i have heard about the throttle valve cable but i dont know if thats it.. also where is the cable and how do i adjust it to see if that helps? thanks much

On most models, there is a lock that holds the sheath of the cable. You can see the lock in the picture in the link below. It's in the top right corner picture.

Here's some more info with different models, were you can see the lock.

Basically you unlock the cable so the sheath moves freely, push the throttle to wide open under the hood, and then lock the sheath back down.
