mil1ion, my tag looks a little different. It is on the pillar. Where the axle codes should be are blank. The fo250/to736 is in a out of place spot.

Hmm, only see three posters, so...

"There is nothing in the VIN# regarding axles or transmissions."

No Scheiss Sherlock!

I asked the VIN question to see of VIN's first three digits matched the truck.

Dennis, do you know I have red hair? That should explain some of the "passion."

Being a first class SOB explains the rest.

Parts catalog (you have one too, Dennis) states 73 = 5.05M rear axle capacity, NOT 4500. Section 40, page 6...take a look.

Bill, the dso code is blank where numbers should be. I spent another hour trying to take rust off the axle tube to find the numbers but no luck. I found in the glove box a waranty identification card on the bottom of the card it has a metal tag with the these numbers: F26sex81409 N K 13
F260 4 24J G
I know the first set is the vin after that i'm clueless

I found the decoder and it said it was a 4.10 60 rated at 5300. I do not get why the ratings on the door are different.

Does the VIN on warranty card match your registration? I decoded another FD VIN, the truck was a F600, the warranty card in the glove box was for a C Series = Cab Over.

In other words, the warranty card may be for something else. Verify VIN on card with your registration...see if it matches door tag!

Out of place G code could refer to transmission. G is the code for a C6.

Truck was prolly built on the first shift on a Monday. Workers were hung over after heavy night of drinking. Local high school team finally won a game of chinese checkers after 80 years of trying.

yes all vin #'s match. the codes on the warranty card make sense now. I just don't get why the axle ratings are off on the b pillar post.

73 just happened to match, the 6 didn't. One of those things, after all, IT'S A FOOOOORD!
