Ok, I need help figuring iut the actual gear ratio in my truck. The tag says it has 4.30's. I have 35in toyo m/t's with a 6 speed manual. If i run in top gear(5th) at 65 the rpm's are 2200. If I'm in 4th they are 3000. I think 4th is a 1.1 ratio(not sure). I pluged in the numbers for 4th gear and i came up with a ratio of around 4.80. I'm new to gear ratios so i'm flying blind. Is there a way to manually check my ratio? By the way my truck is a '03 250 with the v10. Thanks for any help!!!!

Jack the rear end up and turn the tires. Count how many times the driveshaft turns as you turn the tire one revolution. It would be something like 3 3/4 turns = 3.73, 4 1/8 = 4.11, etc.
Or is the the other way around, turn the driveshaft once and count how many times the tire turns? Someone else here probably knows for sure, but I think you get the basic idea.

Jack up the rearend, block the wheels, can't use emergency brake, place a mark on the inside of the tire and one on the driveshaft. Put trans in nuetral and count number of revs of the driveshaft it takes to turn the wheel 1 full revolution.

No prob looks like we were posting at the same time, and like I mentioned I wasn't positive if you counted tire revolutions or axle revolutions. Plus you added in those other little things like blocking the tires and putting it in nuetral, that I didn't think to add.
