is there anybody out there that can help me out with this problem, if there is i would appreciate it.
i just put a new vacuum advance diaghram on my 351w 87 bronco, and the old one would'nt hold vacuum, and every since i put it on my lifters have been rattling like crazy, i turned the timing down some with know help,i also got some 93 octane gas, and i even tryed some octane boast.
is there anything else that i can do. help is appreciated
thanks,
if your dist. was removed to install the vacuum advance, the hexogonal shaft that drives the oil pump may have fallen out during dist. removal. that would explain your noisy lifters. that also means no oil flow whatsoever.
thanks alot for your answer, and the distributor was not removed for the vacuum advance to be put on,but i just put a intake manifold gasket on, but thats been a week ago,and i've been driving all over.
i had to remove the distributor for that, and i've got good oil pressure, i've noticed that theres a little miss in the engine since i did that, but i'm thinking thats probably a vacuum leak.
those little plastic vacuum lines break pretty easy, and theres a whole lot of them on this truck.
you know you can use a allen wrench to adjust those vacuum advance diaghram's, but i've never really under stood that adjustment, to tighten or loosen the pressure on the diaghram allows the vacuum to advance the timing the right amount, does that make sense to you.
well i would appreciate it if you can give me some feedback on that.
thanks,
Well, I agree there are a lot of vacuum hoses/lines on your mill. I have never seen an adjustable vacuum advance yet, so that is new to me. I am not sure why your lifters are noisy (unless coincedence). Check your vacuum lines carefully, and maybe you can pull off both rocker covers, fire up the beast, and be sure there is oil getting to the top end. If there is, you will see oil right away.
I can't help with the vacuum advance but could really use some help from you. I also have an 87 bronco with a 351w. I am trying to reroute my vacuum lines and am having a real hard time locating a diagram or pictures. if you could help me out, I would be greatly appreciative.
well i finally got my truck fixed, evidently when i put the vacuum advance on the distributor was not tight and the timing had advanced about four degrees, and thats what was making my lifters rattle, and it even took care of my miss.
i don't know how i missed that, to big of a hurry maybe.
thanks alot guys,
also this is for stateofot,
you know i had the same problem when i first got my truck.
i'm guessing you have a 351w holley four barrel, and i had to pick every mechanic's brain i knew, but i finally got everything working right. you can't get that from the dealer or ford.
the only way i can help you is if you want to tell me what vacuum you are trying to hook up i can tell you where i put them, like egr ect,if you want to fool with it that way, talk at you later,
