Went to an auction sale yesterday to see a 1990 F-350 long box crew cab auto 2wd truck and bought the sucker. The body is in rough shape rust wise but everything else looked brand new. The motor was rebuilt and has 70,000 kms on it and the tranny was was rebuilt heavy duty with the rv torque convertor. It only has 4000 kms. Lots of power and it runs great but strangly enough it has the original injector caps and is leaking pretty bad.
Anyways i am after the motor and plan to turbo it and through her into my truck. Can the tranny be tranfered over??
The 1990 and 1991 ran the same module for the transmission same wiring harness. The 1989 version used a different module and wiring harness to the module. The routing looks the same with minor differences. In 1992 it changed again. If your going to swap things out between your 1991 and the 1990 it should be turn key. Keep the module out of the 1990. It is the elongated wiring harness that bolts to the left of the chassis harness. Pull your kick panel 1 bolt that dog is out. Those had some updates and were replaced on a service bulletin. This is fresh in my head from the last repower I did.
Thats perfect except for one problem. My 91 is 4X4 and my 90 is only a 4X2. I looked and unless i want to cancel out my 4X4 i cant get that sucker on. What would i have to do in order to make this other tranny fit in with my 4x4?

The transmissions are different is your current E4OD smoked? It has been nearly 2 years since I have had a 2 wheel and 4 wheel E4OD side by side. If I am not mistaken the output shaft is longer right from the finals in the 4x4 E4OD. Just changing the tail shaft won't be the answer. You could probably dismantle the 2 and place your 4x4 E4OD output shaft into the 2 wheel version then put the 4x4 output hub on. This process is a bit complicated and needs to be done in a clean enviroment.
awww really?!?! Well that kinda sucks. The tranny in the 91 truck is fine for now. I just wanted to see if i can make this an easy job if i had my tranny go out on me. i have never had a transmission apart in anything and dont have the money to have someone to convert it for me.
Thanks for all the help!!
Sorry i havent replied in a while. Cows got out and destroyed the phone pedestal hahaha (dial up)
