Hey guys, I dropped a 545 into my 74 crew cab 4x4 and bought the hooker headers and motor mounts made for that swap and guess what, it doesn't work, the headers are in line with the front drive shaft. leaving me about 3/8" of travel. NOT GOOD!
I was wondering if anyone new what manifolds would fit between the frame rails on the 74? I tried some off my old donnor car Linclon but they flare out at the exhaust exit and hit the frame. Is there a tighter one that will work? Someone told me the EFI manifolds may work.... Maybe? Thanks
the efi manifolds wont work, theyll bolt up but the port positioning is wrong and will block off like 1/3 or so of your exhaust port. you need manifolds from an econoline van or truck with a carb 460 if you want manifolds. anything up to 1980 will definitely work as theyre all the same width in the front as your 74. starting in 1980 they went to a 37.5" frame width and may be different, but i dont think so. if you want headers, just go to bronco graveyard and get the l&l lifetime warranty ones. theyre way less restrictive than manifolds, but cost 500 dollars. the primary tubes are 1 7/8 which arent optimal for a 545- they should be 2" or 2 1/8"- but theyre a heck of a lot better than manifolds- and they dont crack like manifolds.

i'm new to ford's so i'm not familare with that motor, but you might want to try speedway motors, jegs, or summit , they have build your own header kits, that way you put them where you want them, you could even go thru the fender wells, speedway only lists up to 427 for $139 but alot of time aftermarket shops carry or can get you what you want you just have to ask, hope this helps
