Hi all, new to the forum and I want to put your knowledge to good use I have an 83, 4.9L 4WD with a bad clutch. I have IDd the transfer case as a NP 208 but the 4 speed I cannot figure out. The ID tag on it says that it is a RUG but when I look in my repair manual for removal instructions it tells me to "disconnect clips and remove shift rods". Ok, there are none, the shifter is bolted to a casing which in turn is bolted to the tranny. I dont want to pull this apart and have the guts inside fall out. Can any one tell me which tranny I have? Its a 4-speed overdrive. If it is an actual RUG, how do I remove the shifter? Thanks for any guidance you can give!!
Ronbo, you do have a RUG transmission. I beleive it's made in Germany. The shifter just unbolts from the top of tranny. Be sure and watch how it comes out, and have it in neutral when removing. Best I can remember, it's a no brainer, nothing will spring out at you or anything.

Thanks a bunch! I just spent the last week under the truck looking at the transfer case and yesterday I finally wrestled it out. I dont want to spend the next week looking at the tranny and wondering I'll pop that puppy out today and get on with it, again thanks!
