I have a vibration in my truck that I am seriously worried about. When I am driving at slow (20mph or less) speeds it doesn't do it. But once I get about 30mph or so it starts to vibrate. When I accelerate it vibrates and when I am inbetween accelerating and coasting it is at its absolute worst. The weird part about this is when I am completely coasting there is no vibration. Any ideas on what might be causing this. It just starting doing it a couple of days ago. Thanks.
If the pinion nut or something else is loose in the rearend, then it may go away when coasting since the clearances change as the gears walk in and out when loaded and unloaded.
Check your driveline for play as well. I have a problem with the xfer case tailshaft/yolk being worn which behaved exactly this way. Unloading the driveline allows it to center and quiet down. So you may have something allowing the driveshaft to push off center. I agree you should check your pinion nut first, but while you are there, check the tailshaft fit or anywhere the driveshaft can go off-center.
how hard and time consuming it is to replace the U-joint? Also, if that is the case should I replace the yoke as well? Thanks again. Hopfully I can get this taken care of before I have to leave town next weekend.
