Really stupid intake question
I have an Edelbrock Perfomer intake going on a 88 5.0, changing from EFI to carb. The intake has 2 good size threaded holes on the back side of the intake. Are these both vacuum, what do I connect them to. I thought one was for the PCV valve and the other for power brakes, but I think the carb has a stub for the brakes.
Like I said, I feel like a doofus for having to ask, but I would rather not screw something up.
The carb is a 1406 Edelbrock 650 btw.
TIA
Vacuum hoses can be divided into those that go to devices that use vacuum in more than minor amounts, including power brakes, PCV valve, and vacuum wipers (long, long, ago . . .) Vacuum users should be connected in a way that results in a balance between the two planes of a manifold, or on a single-plane manifold, all the vacuum should not be coming from one or two ports. The best place to hook up the "users" is to a plate under the carb designed to balance things, or a similar fitting on the carb itself.
Ports near the ends or corners of the manifold are best used only for vacuum gages and vacuum controls that do not use serious quantities of vacuum. Just plug these if you are not using them.
I learned this when I put a PCV valve into the back-end vacuum port on a 312. I had to do a valve job because #8 exhaust went bad from running lean. It took 10,000 miles, but the connection was obvious.
