Brake Boost

Quote - "How would the master cylinder contribute to overflowing to power steering setup when the two fluids dont mix?"

The PS pump on the 7.3 provides the brake boost that engine generated vacuum would normally supply on a gasser. Nope the fluids don't mix but, they are interrelated. Like this morning for example - because the pump was low on fluid I had a mushy feeling brake petal and braking power was somewhat reduced. It got worse when I steered and braked at the same time. Refilling the pump with fluid fixed it.

I understand that part. What I am still trying to figure out is how it would puke out when you do a brake job. When I did my brakes the master was alot fuller but the amount in the power steering resivor didnt change. Maybe you had some trapped air or something in there and all of a sudden it burped its way out. Even when I was doing the p/s flush I still had a good brake pedal. But it got better when I changed the brake fluid and got the old stuff out.

Fluid

That's the thing though - it didn't puke the fluid out till 3 days later. No leaks or fluid coming from the vent during or right after the brake job.

That's the part that has me stumped. I did the brake job, drove it 3 days then the following morning I have PS fluid on the garage floor.

I hate to condemn my pump to the scrap heap if there really isn't anything wrong with it but have to admit puking fluid out isn't exactly a good sign that the pump is 100% healthy.

Hopefully it fixed itself, and you will have very many more happy miles behind the wheel of your truck. Maybe just some kind of fluke thing, ya know.
