My truck, a 1995 F350, 4x4, 460ci motor. I notice then I am often hestitent to ever want to stop completely while driving because I like to avoud shifting out of first as much as possbile, but as we all know, its going to happen whether you like it or not. I hate it because the trucks 1st to second gear can be hard on itself sometimes. If I am gentle on the pedal, which I usually am for that gear, it gives a sturdy shove into second, nothing to out of the ordinary, but by that time, the people behind me at the light are mad at me because I am only going 25mph. So what whinds up usually happening is me giving the truck some gas, which I love to do, and the thing builds up its RPMS over 2.5-3.5 RPM's, and the truck slams into second, has a mini bog session, then recovers great from there. Is there any way to fix this first gear? A tranny flush, had one 15,000 miles ago....Or does this sound like a rebuild in the tranny. Its an E4OD transmission.
Try a can of friction modifier in the tranny. Also, disconnect the battery post for 5 minutes after putting in the additive. I had similar story, but won't bore u with details.
Someone else said it was probably solenoid problem in tranny.
Well I have only had since last year, so its been doing that.
I sounds like the previous owner may have had a shift kit insalled. There are different levels of shift quality and harshness associated with shift kits. Some kits are designed for quick positive shifts and others are for HD towing and performance. HD towing and performance usually give harsh/banging shifts. If a kit was installed, modifier and relearn won't help.
Well that is a possibilty, the guy who used this truck was used strictly as a New England snowplow truck. The thing was an absolute wreck, we have replaced almost every part on this truck except the transmission itself. I dont think this bum had the brains to go out of his way to put a shift kit in it, its gott to just be getting old.
