The injection pump is on the opposite side to the starter motor, and at the other end of the engine. The injection pump is on the right hand side if the flywheel is right in front of you with the engine behind. The starter motor would then be on the left, right behind the flywheel.
Don't know if they put them in boats but Ford did have a 6.6 & 7.8 liter inline six diesel that was made in Brazil with the injection pump on the right hand side of the engine when looking from the flywheel end.
When used in trucks the starter was always behind the injection pump but if its in a boat who knows.
There was a British Ford Diesel that Had the Name Sabre on it in military boats. It was a 225hp inline six. Same thing as a Ford industrial diesel. If the injection pump has Lucas or Cav on it, its a British Ford.
The basic Ford engine is part of a Thornycroft marine engine - a British competitor to Sabre and Lehman. I think the engine was an industrial unit and used in agricultural machinery and generators.
