i have a 72 2wd f-350 that i am pondering on turning into a rock crawler. i am aware that i will need to change out alot of items on it but i am wondering if any one has ever taken a 2wd and made it into a 4wd. i am hoping to keep it a coil over in the front end but i am unsure if i even want to attempt the project.

Before you start, consider the amount of labor it will take, and the costs involved. Figure a minimum of $5,000.00 to start. Add another $5,000.00 if you have someone else do the work. I doubt you'll be happy with the results. An F350 is too long and too heavy. For 10 grand you can buy a better vehicle more suited for rock climbing. A Ford Bronco.
I agree with Bill, I just happened by a tv show this weekend and they quoted that about 108" was best for rock crawling. I don't know if it was for that location that the size thing was best or overall. The F350 is much longer than that.
My first thought as well was that it's too long for a rock crawler...but as for converting a 4X2 to 4X4, it can be done, I'm doing it to a '72 right now as a No. Cal. chapter project. We'll be using ours as a mud drag truck. But keeping it coils...that might be a bit more difficult.
