I have a 75 f100 I6- 3spd reg cab 2wd long box, i also have in my yard a 92 mustang with a carbed 302. i recently picked up a 351c(yes it is a cleveland). question is do the engine mounts in the truck need to be changed out for either of these engines? I plan on keeping it a manual trans, either a 4-5 speed. so which trans would be better for a stock rear 300? unsure or gear ratio too.
i did the conversion on the stang for a song and a dance and would like to do the same with the truck.
yep youll need to swap mounts for the 302, and youll have to probably make mounts for the cleveland as i dont know of anyone who made a swap mount for a cleveland into a fox body mustang, and it was never available in a truck. most people will swap in a 460 before a cleveland.
you can use 302 mounts to put the C in the stang....convertable mustang mounts lower the engine and set it back a bit. I dont think youll need the extra hood clearance tho. The C will bolt up to the T5 5speed in the stang, they share the same bellhousings and engine mounts...the 302 and 351c that is.
Putting the C in the truck would be easiest...or you could pull the 5.0L from the stang along with the engine harness and computer to EFI your truck...and put the C in the stang carb'd. 351c EFI kits are expensive.
well the stang 302 isn't an efi- it was a 2.3 that i converted to carbed. i plan on useing the 351c in the stang. and thought about putting the 302 in the truck. but as of right now the trucks fuel economy is winning with the 300. if it would only stay running.
