Hello, the new guy here
Lots of luck.
Ron
I think its great that your truck has so much family history associated with it.
Glad you have you here
Bobby
let me add my welcome to FTE... and offer a few suggestions...some already mentioned..
1. buy a shop manual... you can find them in Motorhaven here or other truck book sites.
2. post some pictures.
3. scan the tech article site... (above on the menu bar)... lots of good info to dig out of all the late model "stuff" (don't get it on your shoes)
4. go to www.midfifty.com and order a catalog... they have the best breakdown pictures of assemblies and complete "I need it all" parts kits available.
5. post some pictures.
6. start a journal and keep it on what you do as you disassemble... label everything, put it in zip loc bags. take lots of pictures as you go... post those pictures...
7. have a plan (this should be #1) you already said you want to 'restore' but does that include stock steering/brakes/engine/ 6 volt system ?? I think you might enjoy it more with a few updates...disc brakes, 12 volt system, maybe power steering... just something to think about.
8. go to a bookstore... find the magazine section and look for Classic Truck and Custom Classic Truck magazines... sadly both of these, that were once good fab it yourself magazines are turning into "bolt on our advertisers stuff" article collections... but they do offer a good selection of vendors that sell what you will want/need/lust for.
9. ask questions... let us show off what we know and what we think we know and mostly what we really don't know but will bs about for several hundred posts. Truthfully this is the best collection of Ford knowledge you will find anywhere.
and last but not least...
10. Plan on attending the F-100 supernationals in Knoxville Tenn May 17-20. You will see several hundred fine examples of what you wish you could do but can't afford !! and some that you can... plus you might be lucky enough to gather with some of us for a meal.
11. (yea, I know ...I said #10 was last.) have fun, regardless of your direction build your truck YOUR way and enjoy it...I enjoy mine in all its assorted piles and in the several buildings that it now resides...
again Welcome...

problem with number 6. My grandfather basically has the whole truck disassembled, and has treated all the rust (including throwing aways the bed :-( luckly he kept the tail gait) the only problem is that my grandfather passed away, and with him went all his knowledge of how everything worked, and were it went, so ill be basically be building this truck withough basic knowledge, other than a repair manual and you guys.. But well see how everything goes heh, ill get pictures up here very soon
Good luck and can't wait to see pictures!
