my question is i beleave my automatic hub are not engaging.
i've narrowed it down to my hubs, because this past weekend
i got stuck in a little bit of muddd and tried to engage the 4x4
and only the back tires would spin. so the next day i toke it to
my dad's and tried to figure out the problem. so i started by looking under neith the bronco to see if the axles where turning. they would turn all the time in 4x4, both left and right.
so that is how i figured out that it was the hubs. i was wondering if just cleaning them would help? i've only had the bronco for 3 months and i've heard that if you get into deep water you should have them re-greased. i'm hoping they are just stuck. any help would be greatly appreciated
Take your hubs apart and check for contamination. The auto hubs are fine for occassional 4 wheeling. I have 95,000 on mine. I repack the bearings every couple of years, clean and relube the hubs, and they work fine. My truck has been in almost every swamp and muddy construction site in SE Michigan.
If your hubs are truly wore out, then the switch to the manual hubs would be the better way to go, especcially if you are going to thrash your rig on a regular basis (plus they are less expensive).
So the hubs would not engage while you were stuck, but they would at your Dad's? It could be as simple as the fact that you need to roll about 10 feet in 4 wheel drive before the factory auto hubs engage....If you are stuck in 2wd and then engeged the transfer case, you will remain stuck unless you can roll 10 feet in either direction.
I have a New set of SuperWinch Premium Hubs and the conversion kit to switch from the 3 bolt auto-hub to the 6 bolt manuals..Cambronco, or anyone that is intrested, post here or email me at firemedic1027(No Email Addresses In Posts!) .
I will take $60.00 for them, I paid well over $100.
