Clutch question.. pedal spring

Hello,

I have a 74 F100 with a 300/3spd. I recently grabbed the 302/4spd from a '79, along with the steering column, power steering box, power brakes, driveshaft, etc.

I noticed that the '79 I took the parts from had an over-center (assist) spring on the clutch pedal assembly. My 74 does not.

I didn't take the pedal assembly, but now I'm wondering if I should have. It was my understanding that a diaphraghm clutch, like that used on the '79, actually requires less pedal effort to release than the old "borg & Beck" style like my 300 has, so I'm hoping that it will be at least no worse than before.

can anyone who has driven both tell me how much difference this spring makes in pedal feel? I may try to go back and snag it from the guy who sold me the rest of the parts if it makes it a lot easier to operate the clutch.

My left leg is going to end up getting all buff from driving this thing, hehe.

I think some pickups got that extra spring and some didn't - it depended on engine/trans combo, not the clutch. You will be fine without it. My '73 F100 390/4spd has one, it took a cable, long pry bar and a turn buckle to get it back on. Next time it's off, I'll just throw it away. The spring down by the frame is more than enough.
