Quicklook2 do you think jcastellaw could remove the oil pump pressure valve and blow air into the hole. If there was an obstruction it possibly could clear it......if it was between the pump and sump oil pickup?
jastellaw if you were to try this make sure your careful when you remove the bolt that retains the spring and ball. Loose that and it's pump time.
As a matter of fact the oil pump pressure relief valve could be the culprit.
jcastellaw, did you run low on oil or did you stop hard just prior to this happening? Trying to understand what happened to cause a plug-up even though the truck sat for 3 months?
When you changed the oil did you notice any thick parts of the oil?

I don't know what all the fuss is about... people are trying to help you diagnose what's wrong with your engine while spending the least amount of money/time.
step 1 - put a mechanical gauge on it. Even if it's clattering, you have no idea if you're running 8psi of oil when it's quiet - which would mean the motor is done. As you've been told multiple times already - "Fine" according to the gauge doesn't mean anything.
step 2 - either replace the motor or replace the oil pump/pickup screen depending on the results of step 1.
I just installed a wet/mech oil presure guage and my truck reads 50 cold and aroudn 35 warm... is this good oil presure? I've never had a mech guage or any oil presure guage with numbers on it before. So I have no idea what is normal or not.

That sounds pretty normal to me......35 is good for warm.
My 95 5.8 runs about 65 cold and about 50 warm with 10w30 synthetic and stock pump running about 1500-1600 rpm. I had the crank ground and new bearings in it about 20k ago though.
I agree with everyone else, too. Put the mechanical gauge on it to verify what you have and go from there. That is why I had mine apart. The dummy gauge was acting weird and running low, so I put a mechanical gauge on it. It had an oil pan that was made from comperssed rust that had rotted out at one time. Someone had put some sealer on the pan and it had started leaking again after I had gotten the truck. The previous owner had apparently ran it out of oil a few times because the crank journald and main bearings were shot. That was where my oil pressure was going.
Anyway enough rambling about my stuff. Try the gauge then go from there.
had same problem, take off a valve cover see if there is alot of junk built up if it is thats your problem too.
i just took out my motor tore it down and cleaned it up. put new bearings in it oil pump and pick up tube lifters. she oils good now. here is a pick what my motor looked like. for the recored i bought this truck and was told it was a new crate motor from ford with about 60,000 miles. well it was not a new motor but a remanfactured one. and i guess the guy never changed the oil in it. iv had this thing for 5 months now it going t o feel good to drive it.
yea it was nasty man. nasty to clean for sure. but the presure washer at the car wash helped alot lol.
here are a few pics after some cleans and motor back together.
here is a pic of the truck. its a 93 F150 4x4, has the 351 in it. i gave 1500 for it, it got a little bit of rust but ican fix that. and i was lied to about the motor. but that fixed now i hope .
THe truck looks good man. I wish I had to know how, tools, and work area to do that. More much less the tools and the work area mainly. The know how can come from books. Heres what my "rig" looks like.
yea i did. when i frist bought the truck the oil press gauge on it was on the L i didnt like that. so i put a mechanical gauge in the truck and when cold it whould have 65psi then when warm 45. BUT the pig problem was any thing over 2000 RPMs or driveing down the road it will slowly go down to like 5 or 0psi.
now since i redid the things i do it holds 55 when hot now and got up to 65 when going down the road now. hopfully it stay together for a while cause im tired of working on this thing lol.
