Went and test drove a F150 Supercrew this past weekend.
So why did it seem like there wasnt any power and felt unresponsive
compared to my current truck.
Mash the pedal in my truck and it goes, When you mash the pedal in the F150 it just didnt seem to have the same getup and go.
In timed trials, it isn't as slow as it feels, however, there are a couple of factors working against it:
1. It is a porker. It outweights just about everyone.
2. It runs out of breath at upper RPM's. At least that is way it feels. It has more to do with the tuning than anything.
3. The transmission. When you compare the gear ratios in the tranny, it is at a disadvantage, especially the newer 5 speed autos in the Dodge, Toyota, and Nissan. Expect to see a 5 speed auto in the future.
There is more, but the baby's crying up a storm....
There is no mechanical linkage to the TB. It is all computer controlled throttle. The 'instant' response will never be the same compared to older gas motors.
Perhaps you drove a broken one...Mine gets to the legal speed limit really fast....and I get 17.3 miles per gallon doing it. Dodge can't match the payload capacity or the milage...or the styling for that matter. If you want a truck that is fast as heck...get a Dodge. If you want one that will haul a big load ....get a Ford. Ford puts a lot more steel in the truck so it will haul those big loads...Obviosly, more mass takes more power to move it. Some people come on to this website that have no intention to buy a Ford...they are the Nissan/Titan crowd and the Dodge/Chevy bunch. They have no interest other than causing trouble and creating dissention....Those of you...and you know whow you are....Go some place else. We are here to discuss the joy of owning the best truck out there.
SD,
For all of the reasons mentioned above and add to the fact its a new engine, and the computer "learns" your driving habits.....when I first got mine economy was for crap, now around town about 15-16....,so I ***** foot around some....it does pay dividends with fuel at or near $3.00 per gallon. Now when I kick it it does respond better than when new. I have S/C w 5.4 /3.55 rear end....no barn burner but it does the job.....

Nimrod.
Perhaps I did drive a broken one..I know that dodges 1500 cant match the payload capcity of the F150 but my dodge 2500 can, in fact it beats it, however I wasnt asking about payload capcities and yes Ford can beat the mileage that my dodge gives me.
My question wasnt in regards to payload, styling, or mileage.
I dont have a hemi its a 1998 2500 360 5.9L, which I would assume weighs in at or more than what the ford f150 does(I dont know).
From your response I take it you think im here to cause trouble or create some dissention...Not true..
I think I was asking a legit question..since on paper the ford f150 looks like it suppose to have more ***** then my 360 but didnt feel that way to me. Thus the question that I asked..

So since I currently own a dodge ive been branded as never intending to buy a ford, and im here to cause trouble and create dissention. In regards to your last sentence, since when are we not allowed to discuss anything unless you already own a ford. I remember seeing a 2 page post from someone over a older chevy that he had bought. So am I to assume that they are here to cause trouble, lie and deceive everyone into thinking his older chevy is gonna be better.
Im sorry you feel the way you do over such a legit question.
Well, I owned a 2004 Dodge Ram with the Hemi. It did everything I asked of it without a problem for the time I had it (2 years). It was a great truck, but at the time we needed an SUV for more family type stuff since my son was just born. It went bye bye. Fast forward to 2007. I went out looking for trucks with the idea of getting the Redneck Limo (Dodge Megacab). I went and test drove one and liked it very much, however, once I started adding leather, upgraded radio, etc; the price surpassed the 40K mark. Sure they had rebates, but, every store I went to was very proud of them and would rather have them on thier lots than in my driveway.
My father has owned all Ford trucks as well as my wife's side. I went and looked at them and was very pleased with the amount of leg room in the rear and the fact that it had a regular size bed on it. Granted it is slow compared to ALL the other trucks out there for 2007, I bought it for other reasons. I don't mind the fact that it is slower. The fact that I got a leftover 2006 for almost 10K under sticker and good financing, I couldn't refuse. It is a great truck and I continue to enjoy it.
So before we start a Ford vs Dodge debate, let's just say that the Ford is heavy, undergeared, and outclassed for HP with the top motor offered.
I also find that once you've broken it in, you'll have more gusto, but you'll never notice it unless you go drive a fresh one off the lot back to back.
I honestly think your impression of lack of power is due to the electronic throttle. They programmed the throttle to be smooth and refined, therefore it will not jump off the line with just a bit of throttle like the older, mechanical linked V8s will. That's not to say that it has less power, or is slower, but it will feel slower.
My '95 Blazer has that same issue. My '07 FEELS slower at low speeds until you put your foot into it. That being said, my F150 is a lot faster than my blazer in reality. You just have to give it lots of throttle.
Try driving a new Dodge Hemi, and you'll notice the exact same thing. Lots more power than your 5.9, but feels slower because of the throttle.
After I got used to it, I really like the electronic throttle. I like how easy it is to drive the truck smoothly, but she'll really go if you want it to.

i must agree for the most part....it's nice to hear other viewpoints but they are mostly the same old crap....
1: underpowered
2: to heavy
3: tranny shfts weird
1. 300hp isn't bad at all....much better than years past...
2. it's heavy because it's supposed to be heavy....if you want a light truck then go get a nissan but don't complain when it can't haul anything and it doesn't hold up for the long haul
3. yes it does...get over it or get an edge....plain and simple
