You want to put a newer one in an old motor correct?
Keep the style starter you have tranny wise. You can't mix manual for auto tranny starters
Put in the newer starter.
Hook up the main power lead.
Take the main power lead from the starter, up at the the solenoid end and move it to the other side of your starter solenoid. It's now on the same side as the battery lead.
Take a 12 gauge wire and run it from the "switch on side" of your starter solenoid (the place you took your power lead from) down to the solenoid on the starter.
The only thing I don't like about this upgrade is it puts a solenoid next to a hot exhaust. Makes me think of guys with older Chevys that wouldn't start when their motors were hot.
Well my problem is the motor is still new and tight and the starter will not turn it over hot. And on my Charger I put a mini starter off a new Ram p/u which is a factory gear reduction starter. I didnt know if Ford had the same thing....

Yep the newer ones are gear reduction. Like Hemi said check your timing. Check the alternator too. It might not be charging the battery very good.
