Have you checked the transmission fluid level, it might be low. Otherwise I'm afraid it is probably going to be an expensive repair unless you still have warranty left on your truck.

I have an 04 screw with the 5.4 and and 42,000 miles my transmisson did the same thing. it would be fine until it went into 3rd, it would just rev up as if it was in neutral. My truck was out of warrenty, so i took it to the ford house and they confirmed that the tranny went out. I was so mad that they wanted to charge me to put a new tranny in that i contacted Ford Motor Company, and i told the ford house that i did. I told both of them that, do they only build their trucks to last just as long as the warrenty last. Needless to say two days later ford calls me and ask that i pay the first $500 of the bill and they will cover the rest. And to top it off i had them throw in a 100,000 mile powertrain warranty for free just for my trouble. So if ur truck isnt high mileage try what i did it just might work. Good luck

Wish Ford would have done that for me. I have an 04 Screw with only 23k miles and my trans went too. They made me pay for the whole thing...and refused to cover me at all..and I was only a month-and-half out of warranty. BUT, I bought the truck used, and from what I am told from people who I know who work for Ford dealers...thats reason I got boned. I wrote Ford a letter stating my dissatisfaction...but I have yet to hear from them. I doubt they will do anything about it. I wish I only had to pay $500.

23k and you paid for a repair? You did get boned. It doesn't matter whether you bought it used or not - it's still under the standard factory warranty.

I also bought my 2004 screw used. I bought it a about 18 months ago with 26,000 miles. So im not sure about the theory of since u bought it used is why ford wouldn't do the same.

Well thats the thing...it WASN'T under warranty anymore. I was a month-and-a-half out of warranty by time...not my mileage. So the dealer told me "tough luck". They CLAIMED they called Ford, and Ford denied me any kind of help. Whether thats true...I dont know. Thats why I wrote Ford with a copy of my repair order and everything...and said "I want this checked into". But since they already have my $$$, I doubt they will give me anything more than a free oil change coupon! lol
