i am currently building a 1976 f-250 highboy. it has a 3" body lift on it, 36" swampers, and it has been all redone. as for the motor, i have a 351m and a 460, both in tip top shape. i wont be driving the truck regularly, so gas mileage isn't a factor, but if you could give me your opinion on which one to use, that would be awsome.

well thats just it, its not like im looking for power, its just going to be a pretty boy truck anyways. as for transmissions, i have a 2wd short shaft without the bolt mount for the 4wd lever. can i get away with making a brcket for it?
I have had trucks with both engines. I don't think that there is more than about .5 mpg difference in the two. If mileage is no concern, the 460 more than makes up for the lost half mpg in the fun factor, and as monsterbaby said, braggin rights!
Actually the 460 WILL make more power and i can tell you how to get some decent mileage from it as well. This is what my dad did to a '78 suburban with a 454 in it. He was gettin 14 in town and 16 on the road. He started with the spark plugs, he put HOT plugs in it, like two or three heat ranges hotter than the stock plugs, then he advanced the timing, then he leaned the carb out. He was pleased with it, and spanked a few camaros light to light in it.
i did a google search on these engines once and ran across a guy that wrote articles about them. he said that for the amount of money it takes to switch to a 460 you could build up the 400 cheaper.
Check out the After market parts supply. There are way more options for 460's than 400's. There is a reason that is one of the most popular swaps. Hard to beat raw cubic inches.
