Okay guys now dont flame me for this because i am going to do it if it can get done. but i was reading an article recently about made ford tough but chevy stuff in classic truckin and i found it absurd. anyways my grandfather left me a 1984 chevrolet short bed with a 350/350 turbo. it gets rotten gas mileage and i want to swap in a spare 300i6 with a five speed in this truck. A. can it be done. B. how much is invovled. C. would it give me good gas mileage so i can drive my grandfathers truck but still hold true to my FORD roots.
First of all it's good to see someone wanting to drop a Ford motor into a Chevy body, it just doesn't happen often enough. Can it be done... certainly, you will need to fabricate motor mounts and probably relocate the tranny crossmember in order to make everything line up properly. You will need to figure out what you're going to need for drive shaft(s). If it's carbureted, the hardest part will be getting the 300 and trans into the truck and figuring out motor mounts the rest should be fairly easy. You should see an improvement in mileage, I get 16-17 with my 84.
Thanks for the vote of confidence i was starting to think that no one liked the idea.
Chevy guys won't like it but oh well most of the diehard Bowtie Boys I know are ignorant. Most Ford street rods you see have Chevy motors, it's time to even things up a bit.
