I have a popping or "click" every once in a while that I feel in the steering wheel like it is coming up through the shaft. It is ususally when I go over a small bump or while turning. It seems to be getting ever so slightly worse as time goes by... Anybody have any ideas on what this could be? I was hoping is would go away like my bell housing leak did... but it is not. This happens consistantly every time I drive the truck.
May be that you need to tighten your pitman arm?? I dont have a ford 250 but my buddy has one and he has his tightened everytime he gets his tires rotated. I think its a pretty simple thing to do though.
Well, Fella...I have an F250, 2004 model and mine does this. I notice it when I turn full lock, or almost full lock, and am still going a little bit too fast to do so. You, know, like ya should have stayed on the brakes a second more? Mine has like a repetitive bump, bump, bump sound until I exit the turn. I took it into the dealer yesterday and, of course, couldnt get it to do it for them. However, with less than 20k miles on the clicker, it'll be back!!!!!!!! btw its a leaf sprung model with no modification as far as lift is concerned. Is your modded? let me know what you find.
Thanks for the replies... I may look into the Pitman Arm Thing. I don't want to take it to the dealer becaused I am worried about them tearing into it and maybe making things worse... I have never had this truck back to the dealer yet and don't want to do it unless I absolutely have to... I don't mean to dis the dealer, it is just I don't know where to good Super Duty Techs in St.Louis are located.
I have not noticed if it does it more when having the wheel in full turn. This is one of those things that is hard to describe in words... I know that I can "feel" the click or pop in my hands more than hearing it.
Iv' got the same thing going on on my 06 as well. Can't really describe it very well, but sounds like the same thing. It will also do it if I pull on the steering wheel sometimes, like if I shift position in the seat while driving. It's not a clunk, but more of just a click. Mine only happens when pulling on the wheel as decribed or when turning left with one full turn of the wheel.
Reefman... I am sure we have the same problem going on because I can pull on the wheel and produce the click as well... sometimes. Now... we need someone who can tell us if this is something to worry about and if it could be fixed. My main concern is that the STEERING is involved! I am afraid one day this small click is going to suddenly turn into a loud pop and... no steering!
Yes,i just got an 8in lift installed and steering felt floaty.Got under and looked two threads holding drop pitman arm on to steering shaft.Luck to be alive, dude that installed lift was glad to see me leave after little visit.Have a good look underneath, may save your life.I had about 800km on mine when i noticed the funny steering behavior.
