Bad altenator
I thought the whine was just a bad bearing or something and drove on with no problems.
Well I recently bought a new boat and have been using it every chance I get. A couple of weeks ago I drove to one of the local lakes in the rain ran the lights and wipers the whole way with no problems.
Last week I drove to one of the local lakes early in the morning with head lights a blazing and when I was getting ready to put the boat in the water it was dead. I got a jump from another fellow fisherman and spent a while in line at the ramp with lights off and engine at 1500 rpm. Fished for about half the day and decided I better get home to fix the old girl.
Pulled the alt and ran it down to the local auto parts store were it tested bad on the test stand. I installed the new alt and everything has been great. I noticed that the new Alt came with a slightly smaller pulley that I believe will help at idle to keep the ALT light off. I have since went to the lake and back with headlights blazing and everything is grand.
I have always been a believer and have preached that Altenators either work or they don't. This is the first time I have ever seen an ALt get weak. It worked well enough to charge without head lights but could not handle a full load.
Just thought I would share.

I switched to a electronic voltage regulator some time back and you could probably help me out.
What is the model number and what year did they first install the electronic that fits the 65 wire harness?
