I just got a 78 Bronco with a c6\np205. I don't like auto transmissions so I want to swap in a 4spd.
I have a 79 f-150 with a 351m, np435(i think)\np205. so my question is how hard is it going to be to the parts from the 150 to the bronco?
The body is off the bronco and it doesn't have a motor in it yet, its a 460 that I am building.
The 150 don't run very well and I am selling parts, so the body will be off when I start.
If you're selling parts don't sell off anything that has to do with linkage.351M bell housing bolts to the 460.Flywheel does NOT bolt up.Trans and t-case will bolt in in place of the C6 and it's t-case.You will have to swap the pedal assembly and cut the opening for the rod in the floor.I would also change the steering column but you can just remove the old shift lever if you like.I don't know if the Bronco frame is drilled for the bell crank bracket, if not, you can use the F150 frame as a pattern. The F150 has an access panel in the trans hump. You will need to cut the Bronco floor to install this as the 4 speed is taller than the C6.Also grab the speedo cable out of the F150 as you may need it.Hope this helps.
I'm not sure on the booster.I'd suggest keeping the booster from the F150 until the swap is done. That way if you need it you have it.If it is the same I'd keep it for a spare anyway but that's just me.
I am going to use as many parts from the 150 as i can,
I know that all the parts on the 150 are in good shape so what ever i can swap over i will, even parts that dont have any thing to do with the transmission.
I was told on an other site that the 460 would burn up the 11" clutch pretty fast and that i would be better to put in a 12" clutch. is that true?
