mechanical advice welcomed
I have a 1990 bronco with the straight six engine. while driving on a road with serious ruts and potholes. I noticed a stiffness in my powersteering as if it was sticking. I was only going 25mph. I stopped, cranked the wheels to both extremes of turning with no strange sounds. I also checked fluid level. Nothing stood out as strange. I offroad quite often here in hawaii and would be s.o.l. if I broke down in some isolated areas here. Is this a problem starting? It has happened only once so far.
Second, My fuel gauge has been out since I puchased it 1 year ago. I have checked fuse which is not the problem. Is this
something I can do myself? Suggestions?
Third, The radiator is new,but when temp sensor gets to normal from cold, the "check engine" light comes on as if it is running hot. Once on open road the light goes out. Suggestions?
As for your fuel gauge, if it is your sending unit and not the gauge itself or wiring, you might see:

You'll have to drop the tank and remove the pump. The sending unit is attached to it, and in most cases, is replaceable separate of the pump. However, the sending unit is probably a dealer only item, and while you're in there you might as well replace the pump, too.
While you're doing all this you might not be having so much fun, so you might consider cutting an access panel so the next time is not so painful :-) Nonetheless, it's all something you can do yourself w/basic handtools (a second person never hurts, I prefer the attractive female variety).
On your steering, I don't have enough info - have you checked the rag joint just above the steering box? I honestly don't know if it would cause the symptoms you describe but failures are common.
