Angry Front Door Lock problems.

Hello to all, I have a problem with a 2001 Exp. Sport. 4x4. Then information i have found on this forum has been helpful before and has helped me in the past, so i hope someone has an idea on this one. It has to do witht he lock on the drivers side door. When i use my key, i can only lock the door, and not unlock it. If i use the keypad to unlock the door, the lock looks like it tries to go up but it remains locked. But if i go to the back into the cargo area and use the lock/unlock button in the cargo area, the door unlocks. If i use the lock/unlock button on the drivers side door, it unlocks fine. If i use the button on the passenger side door, it DOES NOT work, like it is jammed. Im absolutely dumbfounded by this?!? Any ideas before i got earing door panels off. All help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. Im a new member from Texas.

you need to remove the door panel and see if something is loose or causing an obstruction.

I would first remove the door panel then plug the drivers control back in. don't take anything else apart if you don't have to. get light and some how look up inside at the lock, the arms and motor and operate the switch also having someone else operate all the other switches while you watch to see if you notice a differance during the operation of each switch, it may need lube or a rod maybe bent enough that the motor doesn't have enough power to move the arm. hope this atleast gets you in a direction. If it doesn't work you atleast have some of the door apart for the tech.

i just took it for granted that you would rehook the control.

thanks eddie for pointing it out.

Smile thanks for ideas so far

Thanks for the ideas so far guys, ill work on it tommorow (sat) morning. The only thing that doesnt make sense is why the lock works normally when the door button swith is used ont he drivers door and from the rear cargo area it works normally. But if i use the passenger side button, key pad or my key, the door will not unlock. When i use the key it will lock but not unlock. The keypad will lock but not unlock. I dont have a manual to look at diagrams or anything on the inside of the door for what im looking for either. Thanks again for all the help

My guess is that the electric issues and the key are unrelated (but I could be wrong). I would guess at a broken wire somewhere between the buttons that do not work and the relays that control it. The solenoid that locks and unlocks the door obviously works mechanically both ways as two of the switches can make it function.

The key is likely something interfering with the motion of the unlock movement. You can push or pull on one of the rods in there but not both.
