I've got a 2003 SD cab and a half 6' foot bed with a V-10. I was recently thinking of putting an 8" lift with 38" tires on it. But I'm alittle lost for quality components and how much it will cost. Also what additional parts might I need, drive shafts, gears, steering, etc... I'm also curious what it will do to truck. Will it shake at high speeds, will the steerig wheel develop alot of play, will it ride harder or softer? Also I know the mileage is gonna drop, but by how much, I consistently get 10.5-12 mpg now. Any help would be great guys, thanks alot.
I have pretty much used everybody's lift stuff over the last 23 years or so, and for the leaf sprung SD's I prefer Donahoe, with a quality, remote reservoir shock. (Fox, Bilstein 5100,7100,9100, King, Fabtech/Sway-a-Way) You will have to lengthen the front driveshaft 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 inches. You may need some type of traction/ladder bar (Fabtechs are nice for the money) or CalTracs. The v-10 trucks love all the gear they can get, so 4.56's or even 88's would be in order, depending on your driving style/habits. Put a quality wheel and tire (no PJ's or Interco's if you want good street performance) such as Toyo M/T's, Mickey Thompson, ProComp Xterrains with balance bags installed when mounting, and your truck won't shake or vibrate a bit, even if you run your truck extremely hard. If you don't gear, your mileage will suffer drastically, if you do, your mileage should stay close to the same if you drive respectfully.
