Im going to soon do the fuel line mod and am considering replacing the fuel level sensor while im int the tank but Im not sure thats my problem . My gas gauge reads full for about the first 350 miles after a fill up then will drop to just above a quater tank on the gauge . This seems to be the right reading according to fuel use but I sure would like to see the gauge work for the other 3/4's of the tank .
Does this sound like a sensor or gauge problem ? Is this a transducer type gauge ?
P.S. Sorry , my truck is an early 99 crew cab 4X4 6 speed
Mine stays on full until 105-145 miles, depending on whether its highway or city driving. Not sure about why this happens, but I'm getting ready to do my in-tank mods and would like to know if the unit can be re-ranged as well.
scott, it should like the float is sticking in the tank, either way if you are going to replace or not, you need to pull pickup. Try moving the level by hand and see if it hard.
85fu50, ive heard of people having these problems until they did the intank mods to get rid of the mixing chamber aka hutch mod. You may want to try that first.
f-250_, when i did my intank mods i did mess with the float, i did it very carefully, so it measure 100% empty about a 1/4" above where the lowest point in the pickup is, so i always have more fuel than the gauge says, but if im running low id rather be safe than sorry.
The fill tubes extend into the tank about 4" and by dropping the tank and shortening the part inside you can fill to withing almost 1 gallon of full when the nozzle clicks off.
