Okay, this one is new to me. Recently on my 78 Bronco the tailgate glass seemed like it fall out of alignment. Yes I checked all the bolts they are fine. The glass will not go completely into the gasket at the top and falls short by a 1/2 inch. Is there a limiting switch? I could not find one. I checked the alignment on my fiberglass top too. I am just stumped?

This sounds like exactly what both my passenger power windows did right before they went out. Within a few days they were completely gone.
I picked up a gear replacement kit at the dealer. Easy to install. I assume they have the same type of kit for the tailgate motor. None of the autoparts stores (Autozone, Chief, Checker) here in Vegas had replacement kits. Dealer only is what I was told.
you can check the nylon gears in the motor it's a moderate job to do (takes some hand-wormin to get it in), but just roll the window up with the tailgate down, remove the access panel on the inside of the gate, then take out the 3 bolts (or nuts) for the motor...if the gears are bad, they are 25 bucks new at advance.
