My 1993 F150 inline 6 is eating about 2.5 quarts of oil per oil change. Oil change is always around 2500 miles.
Engine is not dripping a drop of oil on the driveway whatsover.
Last Fall I had a big oil leak repaired with manifold gasket replacement at certified local shop.
A mechanic contact stated to me that a Quart of oil is used up per 1000 miles, is normal on Fords.
Wondering if mine is eating more than normal. I believe it is.
Any I-6 owners out there experiencing this same challenge?
I tow my 1200lb boat about 3 to 4 times a month max - each trip roundtrip of about 60 miles is all up to boat ramp and back.
It's pretty typical for these trucks to guzzle oil. I used to have to check on my 5.0L every time I filled up with gas to make sure I wasn't running dry on oil. My 5.0 burned about as much, if not more, than the amount of oil your burning. The cause of this? I have no clue.
Also got about 3k miles on my oil change in my 5.8L and I just had to put about a quart and a half in the other night... Just food for thought.
I have owned several 300's and I don't believe that they should be using much oil at all. Anything more than a half a quart between changes is too much.
The '89 in my signature was using quite a bit of oil for a while, and it wasn't leaving any oil on the ground where it was parked. It turned out that the oil pan gasket was leaking badly, but only when the truck was being driven.
Do you let the truck warm up? If not and you start it and fly (even more so with a boat) you will use up some. Also are you reving the snot out of it that can use up oil too.
