I know a thread was started on this but that was for a 48 so I do not know if it is the same or not for mine. I want to lower my truck so I did a seach as to what to do. Now I want to remove the rear leafs and take some out and get the eyes reversed. but I an't get the leafs to separate from the axle. I have wacked it with so many different things but nothing. It looks to me as if the bolt goes right throught the perch. Is this true? do I lossen the nut having some c lamps on it?? Or is it just rusted and gonna take some good old elbow grease and heat?
also I want to have reverse eyed main on the fornt too, plus remove some leafs. I have a 2" drop axle in frony already. how low can I go before I have to deal with steering issues? I see that CPP has a kit that deals with this. will I need it if I just reverse the eyes with the drop axle? I want about 4" drop or more in the front.
Once you remove the U-bolts it should be free. If it is still stuck it is rust. The perch has a hole in it where the round head from the bolt fits into, but it is not connected to the perch.
Once the U bolts are loosened (don't remove them entirely if you don't want to hear a big crash when the axle hits the ground and then a big scream when you realize your foot was under it at the time...) Put a good sized prybar (the flat springsteel "wonder bar" sold for carpentry work are much better and cheaper than busting a perfectly good screwdriver!) between the spring and the perch and give it a few healthy whacks, that should separate them.
